Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
