Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'But Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'

A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a recorded message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court was told phone records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout the past two years.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unresolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the recording stated.

The panel was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who gathered the evidence, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my position."

The court heard the co-defendant established a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in that area in December 2024.

Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months preceding the trip to that location, the county, in last December.

The court learned communications between the two individuals, in last November, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We must make a stand," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the appearance to their residence, the defendant dispatched a message which stated: "We find ourselves positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
