Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
